Kitty's ADVENTURE

Hello, It's me, Kitty. Here's a quick look at my amazing adventure with Ella and Seth. I'll add more details when I recover from the time warp.

  • MARKET SQUARE, PORTSMOUTH, NH (present day) -- I was minding my own business strolling through Market Square to meet a friend when, when YEOW!

  • ABENAKI VILLAGE (1,000 years ago) -- Next thing I knew we were surrounded by tall trees. Seth stuck me in his carry bag and we ran away from a bear! (pages 2-3)

  • LITTLE HARBOR, RYE, NH (1623) -- Suddenly there was the delicious scent of raw fish being dried and salted in the warm sun. YUM. (pages 4-5)

  • NEW CASTLE (late-1600s to mid-700s) -- A mean man in a black robe said I was a witch! We got out of there fast and explored the way tall trees were turned into boats using water power. (pages 6-7)

  • MARKET SQUARE to FORT WILLIAM & MARY (1774) -- BRR! It was snowing and a big crowd of noisy people were angry. They stole wooden barrels full of black powder using flat boats. (pages 8-9)

  • JOHN PAUL JONES HOUSE (1782) -- A man in a funny hat told a lot of stories about fighting on the ocean. I got bored so I played with a nice girl on the front lawn. (page 10)

  • PRINCE WHIPPLE (1789) -- Ella really liked a well-dressed man who played music that made us all jump around and dance. (page 11)

  • GEORGE WASHINGTON IN MARKET SQUARE (1789) A man on a horse gave me a ride. The streets were very crowded and people sang songs and cheered for us. (page 13)

  • DOWNTOWN FIRES (1802, 1806, 1813) -- Ella and Seth helped put out three terrible fires. The smoke  was thick and I was very scared. (page 14)

  • PORTSMOUTH ATHENAEUM (early 1800s) When we landed this time the smoke had cleared and many of the wooden buildings were replaced by brick ones. (page 15)

  • TYPES OF SHIPS  (mid-1800s) --  We went on three kinds of water boats, from slow to fast, and I got to ride on a cow. (page 18)

  • USS KEARSARGE & THE CIVIL WAR (1864) -- The time warp put us high on a cliff in a place called France where we saw a terrible sea battle. Didn't like it. (page 19)

  • ISLES OF SHOALS (late 1800s) -- We landed in a wonderful garden on an island with flowers and butterflies and a nice lady who owned a big hotel. (page 21)

  • MUSIC HALL VAUDEVILLE (1901) -- I was on stage with clowns, dancers, singers, even a dog and an elephant. People clapped and cheered. I liked the attention. (page 22)

  • TREATY OF PORTSMOUTH (1905) -- Seth and Ella helped two men shake hands at a hotel that stopped a terrible war. (page 23)

  • PORTSMOUTH 300th (1923) -- A little girl opened a giant bridge and then we  went to a parade. I climbed way up and watched. (page 25)

  • USS SQUALUS RESCUE (1939) -- We visited a man in a hospital who had been trapped at the bottom of the ocean until some people saved him. (page 26)

  • BOMBS, GUNS, SUBS & PLANES (second half of 20th century) -- This trip was too too loud and hurt my ears.  (page 28)

  • CERES STREET REVIVAL (1960s-80s) -- I always like hanging around down by the tugboats where people leave tasty snacks and are very friendly. (page 28)

  • URBAN RENEWAL (1960s-70s) -- Did you know there was a time when people tore down hundreds of their own houses? Why? And then a plane fell out of the sky? It was awful. (page 29)

  • SOUTH END WATERFRONT (late 20th century) -- There was so much going on down by the water that Ella got scared and dropped her magic phone. She was afraid we would never get home. (page 30)

  • FUTURE PORTSMOUTH (2123) -- Most fun ever! I got to fly and people from the future look funny. (page 31)

  • 400th ANNIVERSARY GRAND PARaDE (2023) -- Whew! We made it back just in time. And my friend was right there waiting to see me! (page 32)
